Rock On The Range Kickoff Party: Stone Sour
May 18, 2017
I was scrolling through Instagram one day and saw that Rock On The Range (ROTR) posted an announcement that Stone Sour would be the band performing at the ROTR Kickoff party. Tickets were going on sale that day at 12pm EST. At that very moment my computer clocked changed from 11:59am to noon. I don’t think I ever moved so fast in my life.
Fortunately I was able to purchase two general admission tickets for the show at the extremely low price they were selling them for of $11 USD/each. Reading comments online later it seemed to sell out pretty quickly.
My boyfriend and I drove 5.5 hours from Southern Ontario to Blacklick, OH where we had booked an Airbnb to stay for four days for the duration of the ROTR festival. I had looked into hotels back in November and they were so expensive. They were priced for around $200 CAD/night for cheap budget hotels, which would have been way to costly for that many nights. I was able to find a beautiful Airbnb townhouse 25 minutes from the stadium for $80 CAD/night instead.
As promised to my best friend I did an outfit of the day photo, which I never do so I definitely need some experience.
It was also my birthday that day so we drove to the concert early, parked in a parking garage across the street for $5 USD and walked a few minutes to an Italian restaurant called Buca di Beppo. We had never been there before but my parents recommended it.
We ordered a caprese salad to start ($13 USD) and then ordered the chicken parmigiana ($21.99 USD) and fettuccine alfredo ($16.99 USD). Their style of menu there is based off of small and large, not individual portions so you share everything family style. We signed up for their newsletter online and received the pasta for free.
Even though doors had opened 45 minutes prior there was still a long line to get into the concert venue when we walked over after eating. We were able to snag this standing spot along the wall though where we were elevated compared to the rest of the crowd so we could see great.
It was extremely hot in the venue prompting Corey Taylor to take his shirt off during the show, which I definitely did not mind. Happy Birthday to me! ;)
During the show they also covered Outshined as a tribute to Chris Cornell who had passed away earlier that morning.
They premiered two new songs from their upcoming album Hydrograd being released June 30th called Song #3 and Fabuless. The whole set list can be found here.
Here is a video compilation I took from the night. I never take full videos of anything in particular, as I want to be enjoying myself in the moment and not behind a viewfinder the whole night.
Look for my 3-day ROTR recap post soon.
